She Treks Her Way Through Star Trek Sage Elliott, 1 January 202519 December 2024 Sage. 40-something. She/they. Based in Pennsylvania, USA. LGBTQIA+. I never know what information to include about myself, but those are some of the basics. But anyway. Welcome to She Treks. It’s a new year and I’m boldly going where I’ve never been before. Is that a weird thing for me to say? Table of Contents Toggle About meWhat drew me to Star Trek?About She TreksMy watch orderWhat you can expectHow to join in on the fun About me Another thing to know about me: I didn’t grow up watching science fiction. It wasn’t something the people I lived with really cared about and I assumed it wasn’t something I enjoyed either. It wasn’t until I reached adulthood that I realized that I actually do like science fiction. I’ve obviously been aware of Star Trek. It’s such a ubiquitous franchise that it’s hard to miss. Yet, I’ve been avoiding watching it. I guess it’s such a massive franchise that I felt overwhelmed by the prospect of watching it all. What drew me to Star Trek? She Treks is a blog that I’ve wanted to start for years. Literally. I’ve tried several times to start a blog like this several times but things have always gotten in the way. But I’m determined to stick with it this time, damn it. So what’s different about this attempt? I feel like Star Trek is something all science fiction fans should be familiar with. I mean, I’m probably more familiar with Star Trek than I realize. After all, it has been such a huge cultural juggernaut for over 50 years. It has certainly influenced other science fiction out there. But you know what I mean – I want to see first hand what influenced a lot of the science fiction that came later. In addition, many Star Trek fans say that the franchise has a hopeful / optimistic view of humanity and our future. Frankly, I’m feeling pretty pessimistic about the world right now. I could use a more hopeful view of the future. About She Treks She Treks is a blog about exploring the Star Trek franchise for the first time. Whether you’re new to Star Trek like me or a seasoned viewer, you might enjoy reading a blog written by someone like me. My watch order In my research, I’ve come across three main suggestions about the order in which to watch the Star Trek franchise. Simply pick a series that sounds interesting and start there. Watch the franchise based on release date, starting with The Original Series. Watch the franchise based on timeline. For my first time viewing Star Trek, I have chosen to watch based on release date. So I will be starting with the unaired Pilot of The Original Series. What you can expect You may be wondering about what kinds of content you will find on She Treks. For now, I will be focusing on reviewing individual episodes. As I gain more experience with the Star Trek franchise, I hope to expand my content pillars. Some things I’m considering writing about in the future: Star Trek novels and / or comics. Comparisons between Star Trek and other science fiction franchises. Doing deep dives into characters and / or themes. Possibly other things???? This is subject to change, of course and will depend a lot on what moves me. How to join in on the fun I’d love it if you signed up for the She Treks Newsletter. You will get an invite to an exclusive Discord server where you can chat with me and other Star Trek fans. Newsletter subscribers will also receive regular updates about what I’m learning about Star Trek as well as behind the scenes looks at the blog. I’m looking forward to starting the journey.
